Ms. Anaïs Wolpert joined Maryvale Preparatory in 2016 and has been a crucial part of the school’s community since its humble beginnings in a leased church. Ms. Wolpert is blessed to teach high school Studio Art and French on our beautiful new campus and also has experience teaching art at the elementary level. Ms. Wolpert shares about the joys and challenges of teaching at a Great Hearts Title 1 academy.

What is your school’s mission, and how do you explain it to students?

Our mission here at Maryvale Prep is to cultivate in the hearts and minds of our students Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. We explain to students that their education at Maryvale Prep prepares them for college and for a virtuous life.

How do you incorporate virtue-centered learning in your classroom?

In both my Studio Art and French classrooms, a virtue to which students and I regularly appeal is Perseverance. Young artists in Studio Art persevere in new and often challenging mediums with the ultimate aim of self-expression. In French, scholars hone their accents and grammatical concepts with determination and ever-growing confidence.

How is your school’s culture shaped by the local community?

We have been blessed at Maryvale Prep in that the local community is equally invested in the formation of hearts, souls, and minds of children. From curriculum night to the winter concerts and drama performances, to the Spring Fiesta, parents and community members join us in creating an environment of love, care, and goodness for our students.

What has kept you at Maryvale Prep over the years?

Without a doubt, the students are what have kept me at Maryvale Prep over the years! I can’t imagine a pursuit more worthwhile than the formation of critical thinkers, spirited speakers, expressive artists, and servant hearts. These are children who are cherished, respected, and nurtured into the whole person they will one day become – and we love them!
